Allen Albert Martin, age 69, passed away on June 8, 2018 at University of Colorado Hospital surrounded by his family. He was born September 17, 1948 in Billings, MT to parents Albert and Rose Martin.

Allen grew up on the south side of Billings and attended Garfield Elementary School, Riverside Middle School and graduated from Billings Senior High School in 1967. He joined the United States Army, was stationed in Fort Carson, CO and proudly served as a medic in the Vietnam War.

He ultimately grew up living across the street from the love of his life, Marilyn Bender. Allen and Marilyn were married on April 25,1970 in Pilgrim Congregational Church. The two were blessed with three wonderful children: Tammy, Tim, and Tracey. 

He worked for American Linen (Alsco Linen) for 30 years. He made many friendships with the people he delivered linen to or made service calls too. After he retired from American Linen he worked as a substitute custodian in School District #2 and as a crosswalk guard protecting the kiddos that went to Highland Elementary School for 18 years. He only “gave up” his crosswalk when he became too sick to go on a daily basis.

He was definitely a sports fan. He was an avid Denver Broncos, Colorado Rockies, and Colorado Avalanche fan and rarely did he miss a game on television. He also enjoyed watching the local high school football and basketball teams and the American Legion baseball teams. Allen was a lifelong member of Pilgrim Congregational Church and served as a deacon there for many years. Allen was also a member and president of the Riverside Optimist Club for many years.

Allen was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Rose Martin, his older brother Gilbert Martin, his mother and father-in-law, Fred and Marie Bender, his brothers-in-law Vernon Bender, Lyle Piatte and Gary Schmaing and sister-in-law Linda Bender. 

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Marilyn Martin, daughter Tammy Taylor and her husband Scott, son Tim and fiance Jodi Worden and her two children Abi and Carson, daughter Tracey Tounsley and her husband Luke and “his pride and joy” granddaughter Kylie Tounsley. He is also survived by his sisters Betty Piatte and Agnes Schmaing, brother Duane Martin, brothers-in-law Duane and Ron Bender, sisters-in-law Darlene Bender and Andrea Martin along with numerous nephews and nieces.

Dad suffered from congestive heart failure for 15 years and finally his heart could just not go anymore. Dad was the biggest fighter of life that we have ever known. He was willing to try anything and everything to keep his life going so that he could watch his granddaughter grow up and to celebrate 50 years of marriage. Unfortunately, the LVAD surgery in Colorado did not go as planned and his goals and aspirations were cut way shorter than any of us wanted it to. Dad you fought the good fight for many years and now your fight is over and the struggle is gone. You will be greatly missed but never forgotten. We love you Dad!
