In Memory

Michael Hegg

On Sunday, Feb. 3, 2019, Michael “Meko” Allen Hegg passed away in his home at the age of 70. Michael was born on Jan. 6, 1949, in Billings, to Roy and Irene Hegg. He grew up in Billings, graduating from Senior High. Michael pursued a career as the supervisor of the universal dark room at the Billings Gazette, where he worked from 1970 to 2011.

Michael was twice married. He and Ardella Kanning had a daughter, Margie Hegg. He and Vanessa Anderson Hegg had two children, Logan Hegg and Sophie Magnuson. He was a constant source of advice and wisdom for his children. His presence in their lives will be greatly missed.

Michael enjoyed many outdoors activities, including four- wheeling, grouse hunting and spending time soaking in hot springs around Montana. He was passionate about good food, lively music, better spirits and enjoyed hosting dinners for family and friends. Michael was always sharing stories and making others around him laugh with his jokes. Some of his best memories were made at the ballpark with family and friends watching the Mustangs play.

Michael is survived by his children, Margie Hegg (Paul Brockman), Logan Hegg, Sophie (Chris) Magnuson; grandchildren Rhys and Liam Brockman and Gabriel Magnuson; and countless dear friends.

Mike and my freindship stated when we did a lot of business together when I had my retail electronic store.   He was very helpful to me when it came to advertising in the paper. I always made my plan to meet with him late in the day so we could go for a few brews and have a lot of laughs. I do not know if I have ever known anyone that had his energy.  Always smiling and laughing was Mike, the world, as will as myself, will miss you.  RIP   my old friend.   Dan Reno

I had not seen Mike since High School until one of the classmate gatherings at the Red Door last summer. I was fortunate to have had the opportunity to visit with Mike. I listened to him tell some humorous stories about several of his adventures he had during his life. His enthusiastic and animated style of delivery made the content even more enjoyable. The great photo that is with his obituary captures the upbeat personalty that I remember. Not once did I hear about any downside nor about any health issues. Mike certainly had his physical challenges. From my memories of Mike in high school and from my visit with him at the Red Door over 50 years later, he played the hand he was dealt well. I think he would be pleased with being remembered as just one of the good guys. To me he was certainly a good guy, a good guy that was also inspiring. Rest in Peace Mike.
