I remember Donnie from 7th grade through 12th. Donnie was a trooper and was dealt a tough hand with his epilepsy. I remember being around a few of his episodes at school. He never let it get him down and he kept a smile on his face continually. He just kept on trucking. My condolensces to his friends and family. His life here on earth was very short.
Donnie lived around the corner from me when we were growing up. We didn't spend much time together, but I liked him, and one time I stopped some kids from bullying him at Broadwater School. Another time we went to a Senior High football game together. The last time I saw him he was excited about some upcoming surgery to maybe cure or alleviate the epilepsy
I also went to grade school with Donnie. I have thought of him so many times over the years - particulary when I taught school for a while. I just have to believe that there weren't progams for people who learned in different ways - or struggled with learning in general. I just remember Donnie always doing his best - and he got through high school with that will. Although I'm guessing he wasn't cut much slack from the educators in those days. He was a kind, gentle soul.
